Pastis for the one and only, Tuna Nicoise

There are some restaurants you go to where there is one dish on the menu that you ordered once, and you’ll never be able to order another thing on the menu again. For me this happened at Pastis, I’ve eaten there several times, but only ever tried the one thing on the menu. And i can pretty confidently say i probably will only ever try one thing on the menu.

The dish is the Tina Nicoise salad – a huge bowl of baby arugula, green beans, peppers, kipler potatoes, white anchovies, hard-boiled eggs, grape tomatoes, fennel, black olives and perfectly seared rare tuna drizzled in a balsamic vinaigrette. It’s really good, but really big – although I could stop probably half way through, i never can.

Masterpiece, right?

Meantime, The Bogan has ordered from the rest of the menu. His favorite brunch item is the Croque Madame, which is good, but no Tuna Nicoise! For those unfamiliar with this traditional French dish, it’s basically an elaborate grilled cheese and ham sandwich with bechamel sauce drizzled over the surface, like icing on a cake, and then a sunny side up fried egg.

Cheesy goodness - The Bogan's heaven.

Mmm that tuna nicoise looks delish! Those slices are seared to sex out of ten.
    Bring me back some, please.

    The ‘Croque Madame’ look’s better!
