The Cheesecake Factory

I was always aware that the culinary lifestyle of New York was very different to the rest of America, but it’s not until you get outside and actually experience the ‘super-size me’, chain restaurant world that it actually hits home!

Recently we took a trip to Voorhees, New Jersey to visit The Bogan’s family. The first night we arrived we went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory in Cherry Hill… the restaurant was huge, the menu was huge, the meals were huge!

When i finally got through the menu, i ordered the hanger steak with shiitake mushroom jus, wasabi mash and tempura asparagus ($21). We also ordered nachos for the table ($11) which, when it arrived, was the size of a platter!

My steak was OK, it was already sliced up which i wasn’t expecting and while i asked for it to be cooked medium-rare it was more or the blue side. The sauce a little much as well, there was so much poured over that it drowned out the flavor of the meat and was almost like soup! Aside from this, the meal was humongous! I didn’t come close to finishing, i think the emphasis of this restaurant is definitely quantity, not quality!

Ribs from The Cheesecake Factory

The Bogan had ribs ($26) – a platter piled high with saucy beef ribs, chips and onion rings. He ate it all, the ribs at least, and then proceeded to contemplate dessert… there was no way i was doing it!

I was tempted to go back the next day to try the one dish the restaurant was named after, cheesecake, but we didn’t get there. Unfortunately after that huge meal, i still wasn’t ready to think about something that rich the day after, either.
